Suboxone

Suboxone

Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) is an orange pill, that comes in both 8mg and 2mg.  It is used for opiate addictions.  So what exactly does it do?

Suboxone first blocks withdrawal symptoms.  For some people it blocks ALL of the withdrawal symptoms, they are in no pain at all.  For some people it blocks MOST withdrawal symptoms, you don't feel horrible on it, but you don't feel great.  For some people, it does not block withdrawal symptoms to greatly.

I would say that for most people, around 99%, it either fully blocks or mostly blocks the withdrawal symptoms.  There are very few people that it does not work for, as far as blocking withdrawal symptoms.

Suboxone also acts as an opiate blocker.  So if you take any opiates while you are on suboxone, you will not feel the opiates.  Supposedly, suboxone blocks opiates for about 48 hours.  But I have noticed that it is more like 24 hours...of course depending on how much you take that is.  For me, 2 mg blocks opiates for about 16-20 hours, and 8mg blocks for about 24-30 hours.

So is suboxone effective?  Absolutely...but for most people only for a limited amount of time.  A lot of people who get on suboxone stay clean for a month or two, and then go back to their old habits.  I personally would recommend suboxone to anyone that has VERY VERY good self control and a VERY strong desire to quit doing opiates.

It will take away the withdrawal symptoms and block opiates, but for me it did not take away the cravings, although it is suppose to.  You have to really really want to quit to be successful with suboxone.

The way suboxone is taken is you put the tab under your tongue and you let it dissolve.  Suboxone is an orange pill, that has an orange flavor.

One of my biggest negatives on suboxone is that a lot of people use it to substitute in and out with opiates.  So they will keep a stash of suboxone...when they can't find pills or heroin they just take some suboxone so they don't withdrawal and get super sick.  Also, people will take suboxone when a drug test is coming up.  It does not show up on drug tests, and you can beat drug tests if you know they are coming up ahead of time.

I recommend trying suboxone before methadone.  But before trying suboxone, I recommend rehab.  Hope this helps you all understand suboxone!
